Community Fund

The Climate Pledge Arena Community Fund was created to further Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Kraken and One Roof Foundation’s shared commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive community in alignment with the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative.

Pursuant to Seattle Arena Company’s lease with the City of Seattle, the fund focuses primarily on organizations in and around Seattle Center. The fund shall support youth focused programs and projects that use arts, music and culture as strategies to drive racial equity and social justice.

Frequently Asked Questions

This grant is intended to support a specific program or project, not general operating expenses.

Qualifying criteria:
• 501(c)(3) or non-profit with fiscal sponsor.
• Not represented as a voting member on Giving Council.
• Based in Seattle or primarily serving the Seattle community.
• Pursuant to Seattle Arena Company’s lease with the City of Seattle, the majority of the fund will be directed to organizations whose primary office location is physically located within the Seattle Center neighborhood (including Seattle Center campus, Uptown, Queen Anne, South Lake Union, and Belltown.)
• Political, religious, civic, special interest groups, educational institutions, and third-party funders are not eligible.
• Organizations that received a grant during the 2023 cycle are not eligible.

Program/project must:
• With authenticity and intentionality support and serve marginalized youth or youth of color through arts, music, or cultural programming.

Total available funding for the 2024 grant cycle is $100,000. Grants will not exceed $10,000. Pursuant to Seattle Arena Company’s lease with the City of Seattle, the majority of the fund will be directed to organizations whose primary office location is physically located within the Seattle Center neighborhood (including Seattle Center Campus, Uptown, Queen Anne, South Lake Union, and Belltown.)

Grant review committee will evaluate how effectively the project or program:

  • Reaches and engages marginalized youth or youth of color, including:
    • Thoughtful recruitment and outreach
    • Accessibility — how are barriers being addressed (transportation, location, costs, partnerships)
    • Either through great breadth or depth
  • Fosters deeper engagement in the arts/music/culture for marginalized youth or youth of color.
  • Positively impacts marginalized youth or youth of color, including the development of life skills and/or cognitive, emotional, or social development.
    • Anecdotal (from participants, teachers, parents, etc.)
    • Quantifiable (e.g., test scores, graduation rates, attendance rates, etc.)
  • Advances the organizational mission, goals, and values.

Viability of nonprofit may factor into eligibility or score if review of IRS Form 990, budget for current and prior year, annual profit and loss statement, actuals for current year surfaces significant concerns that are not adequately explained by the applicant.

Review committee may also consider budget size and capacity of grant applicant.

Donation requests

Climate Pledge Arena and the Seattle Kraken are dedicated to the community we serve. Our commitment to building a better Seattle transcends sports and entertainment, and we will step up as a good neighbor to support initiatives vital to Seattle Center, the surrounding neighborhoods, and the city as a whole.

  • To be eligible for a donation, your organization must have 501(c)3 tax exempt status and reside within 75 miles of Climate Pledge Arena or be a youth hockey program in one of these five states: AK, ID, MT, OR, WA. If your organization is located outside of this geographic area, please contact the NHL team nearest you to request a donation.
  • We will prioritize requests submitted by organizations whose mission(s) closely align with our three pillars of hockey access, youth homelessness, and environmental justice. We do not donate to political, religious, advocacy, or special interest groups, or any organization that may in any way conflict with our goals, programs, or affiliations.
  • We will provide a response to all requests – whether approved or not – so please refrain from contacting our offices to check on the status of your request. If you have any questions, please contact us at donations@seattlekraken.com.
