The Arena tunnel is OPEN! The tunnel entrance is on 1st Ave N between John St. and Thomas St.
Interior work continues with suites, bathrooms and other spaces undergoing mock-ups for approval and completion.
Street improvement work will start within the next month.
Along with the Arena opening, the Seattle Department of Transportation has designed improvements that include curbside modifications, enhanced Uptown and Arena access through transit, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. SDOT approved the use of 2nd Ave for inbound and outbound trucks during the hours of
7 am–10 pm Mon.–Fri. and 9 am–10 pm Sat., Sun., and Holidays.
SDOT approved routes for all hours include westbound on Thomas St. to southbound Queen Anne Ave. N.
The Arena MPPCNV is activated.
Construction is allowed 24/7. Impact work hours are limited to daytime work only.

North Side – Installation of the rigging grid is nearing completion. Installation of the landmarked curtain wall and glass continues to progress well and is almost complete. Structural steel erection continues along with slab placements that start early morning. All work will progress during daytime hours, which includes Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am – 5 pm for impact work. All other work will occur as permitted by the MPPCNV.
Renovation of the North Courtyards (upper and lower) is underway. The Courtyards are now closed to the public and access will be limited to Seattle Center staff and Resident Organizations. Proper staffing and safety measures are in place. Courtyard work will be done during daytime hours only. As part of the North Courtyard renovation, SDCI has granted approval for the removal of the north segment of the sound wall with the condition that the Arena’s historic curtain wall is sealed.
South Side – The atrium is framed and starting to be enclosed. The loading docks and back of house spaces are progressing along with elevator framing, foundation placement, shotcrete operations and excavation work. Slab placements are largely complete and start early morning. All work will be done during daytime hours, which includes Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am – 5 pm for impact work. All other work will occur as permitted by the MPPCNV.
Construction activity for utility work on Thomas St. between Warren Ave. N and 1st Ave. N continues. Pedestrian access is maintained via detours. Proper staffing and safety measures are in place.
West Side – Once the tunnel is operational, this will allow for the closure of the temporary ramp located at the NE corner of 1st Ave N and Thomas St. The entry gate at this location will continue to be utilized to access the work site. Framing of the landmarked curtain wall is nearing completion and is projected to finish this month. Waterproofing, shotcrete, foundation excavation and new foundation placement is progressing. Structural steel erection continues with slab placements that start early morning. Excavation/backfill activities, along with underground utilities, are being installed during evening hours. All work will be done during daytime hours, which includes Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am – 5 pm for impact work. All other work will occur as permitted by the MPPCNV.
East Side – Installation of the rigging grid continues. Installation of the landmarked curtain wall and glass is nearing completion. Structural steel erection continues along with slab placements that start early morning. All work will be done during daytime hours, which includes Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am – 5 pm for impact work. All other work will occur as permitted by the MPPCNV.
South Parcel (south of Pottery Northwest) – Concrete work continues on the decline ramp to the entrance of the tunnel. Work to finish the tunnel includes shotcrete and waterproofing. The tunnel is projected to be operational by January 25th. Noise generating activities are underground, which helps reduce levels. Noise mitigation enhancement is continually being evaluated and installed. All work will progress during daytime hours, which includes Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am – 5 pm for impact work. All other work will occur as permitted by the MPPCNV.
Bi-Weekly Arena Meeting – Open to all, the bi-weekly Arena meetings are open house forums to provide project updates and coordinate with stakeholders including but not limited to local businesses, communities, SDOT, SDCI and Seattle Center resident organizations on construction impacts and efforts to support ongoing activities at Seattle Center and in the adjacent communities.
